The story

Faithful when kingdoms collide

Daniel 11

Daniel 11 gives an unusually detailed preview of struggles affecting God’s people, moving through Persian rulers, the rise and division of Greek power, and repeated conflicts between northern and southern kingdoms. Much of the chapter corresponds closely to events leading to Antiochus IV Epiphanes, whose persecution and desecration became a severe trial for faithful Jews.

Key verses

What God says here

Discussion · part 1

Talk it through

1. Why does the chapter contain so much political and military detail?

Leader notes

The detail shows that history is not outside God’s knowledge (Daniel 11:2–4). Events that feel chaotic to those living through them remain within His disclosed purpose. Follow-up: Where do you see this pressure or pattern in your own setting?

2. How does Antiochus IV help us understand the chapter?

Leader notes

His campaigns, deception, persecution, and temple desecration closely match much of the description (Daniel 11:21–35). He is a historical oppressor and, for many Christians, a pattern of final anti-God arrogance. Follow-up: What part of this truth most challenges your usual response?

3. What does it mean for those who know God to stand firm and act?

Leader notes

Their strength grows from relationship with God, not personality (Daniel 11:32). Faithfulness may include refusing compromise, helping others, teaching truth, and continuing worship. Follow-up: What would one faithful action look like this week?

Discussion · part 2

Talk it through

4. What is the role of the wise during crisis?

Leader notes

They instruct many, even at personal cost (Daniel 11:33). Wise leadership clarifies truth, resists panic, and equips others rather than collecting attention. Follow-up: How should this truth change the way we pray?

5. How can suffering refine believers without making suffering good?

Leader notes

Evil remains evil, but God can use trials to expose false trusts, deepen perseverance, and purify motives (Daniel 11:35). We do not celebrate cruelty; we trust God to redeem what He permits. Follow-up: Who could help you live this out with courage and humility?

6. How should we read headlines in light of this chapter?

Leader notes

Stay alert without forcing every event into a chart (Daniel 11:27, 35, 45). Test claims, pray for the persecuted, live faithfully, and remember that every arrogant ruler reaches an appointed end. Follow-up: What would speaking the truth in love look like here?

This week

Memory verse
Daniel 11:32 (KJV) — “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”

Apply it: Choose one faithful action instead of one more hour of speculation: encourage a pressured believer, learn a truth well enough to share, or support persecuted Christians.

Pray
God of truth, make us people who know You, stand firm, teach wisely, and endure without panic when kingdoms collide. Use us to strengthen others and keep our eyes on the appointed end of evil.
